One of the greatest joys of my life is being in rehearsal as a director. Working with a playwright, a team of actors and a production team, I just love it. We work together, seek creative solutions together, and simply do the work as a compassionate team, and what we manifest in performance is so much more than anyone of us could have imagined.

It is like magic, in a world where most people don’t believe magic exists. It is why I love the theatre. I can experience magic. We can experience magic.

As we grow closer to this election, in the midst of this pandemic, the news media and social media are bombarding us with what is right and what is wrong, what we should do, and what we shouldn’t do, and many of us, myself included at times, are becoming polarized in our thinking and feeling anger “for the world is not the way it is supposed to be.”

As compassionate human beings and artists, we need to throw some COLOR on this black and white canvas.

Life is not, and will never be Black and White.

We know that as artists.

With our work, we show people colors that they have been unable to see. We show people perspectives and alternate sides of the story to reveal the truth.

We can’t get caught up in this bipolar emotionality.

For many of us, the reason we are artists is because we have always seen things differently, from a bigger higher perspective, from a different place or plane, and we need to continue to do that in a world that often looks so Black and White. We need to see what is, not what FEAR and the media shows us.

So let’s work together, with the rest of this Black and White world, to create some magic, our magic, through showing up in the present moment, through listening, through collaboration, and by seeking creative colorful solutions to Black and White challenges.

All this drama and fighting is for the stage.

Let’s show up as compassionate artists and use our creative skills and sensibilities to help build a kind and compassionate team called Humanity, and create magic like never before!
